Shiva Kala Narthanalayaa is a dance school based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The school was founded in 2008 with strong encouragement from Smt. Sanmathi S Mowli’s parents & grand parents. The main aim of the institution is to support and promote the southern Indian classical dance form Bharathanatyam. It specialises in Vazhuvur style of Bharathanatyam. Shiva Kala Narthanalayaa is proud to be a part of three successful Guinness Book of World Records, Asia Book of Records and India Book of Records. Students of Shiva Kala Narthanalayaa have also won in several dance competitions conducted both Online and Offline.
Dr. Sanmathi S Mowli is the founder-director of the Shiva Kala Narthanalayaa dance school. She is a renowned exponent of Bharatanatyam. The school focuses on the overall development of the student. Since the dancer has to be agile and flexible, stretching and other physical exercises go hand in hand with dance training in classes. The school has an ambition to rediscover the ancient art of Natya set forth in the Natya Shastra by making it more appealing to younger generations.
Over the years, has continued to make steady progress. Several arangetrams and group presentations have been conducted. Students have presented programs within the country and abroad. Theory of Dance, Carnatic Music and Yoga are part of the curriculum. Examinations are held periodically to evaluate both the theoretical and practical knowledge of the student. The focus is on creating a complete artist.Strong emphasis is laid on imparting cultural values.
Students are encouraged to participate in group events held by the institution. Senior students who have completed their arangetram are now part of the main stream Bharatanatyam circuit.
